[摘要]A review. The potential applications of nanotechnol. for diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases are currently very broad. Practical application of nanomedicine requires, therefore, besides creativity and visionary power, simple approaches, and systematic development. In this review the authors have provided an overview on some fascinating developments in the area of nanomedical research and applications. Since the field is currently expanding at a very fast pace, the authors could not include all aspects of present nanomedicine in detail. The authors' aim was mainly to demonstrate the highly transdisciplinary character of nanomedicine and to give a view on developments and research topics in chem., biol., physics, and engineering that can revolutionize clin. therapies and diagnostics. Nanotechnol. has already made an important impact on clin. applications, which are expected to grow exponentially during the next few years. The main focus of clin. nanomedical applications is currently on the treatment and efficient diagnosis of cancer. To efficiently detect malignancies, for example, mol. changes to the cells must be detected as early as possible. This means that extremely sensitive techniques have to be used. Nanotechnol. concepts have, for example, the potential to address single cells and so meet this challenge. The knowledge currently being gained in this field will provide the basis for establishing personalized medicine.
