[摘要]:Volcanic ash ingested by jet engines can damage conventional Y(2)O(3)-stablized ZrO(2) thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) used to protect engine parts in the hot section. Newer TBCs, one based on Gd(2)Zr(2)O(7) and another composed of ZrO(2) solid solution containing Y(2)O(3), Al(2)O(3), and TiO(2), are found to be highly resistant to such damage from Eyjafjallajokull volcano ash.
