The first synthesis of bis(arylmethylidene)dioxan-5-ones. Potential scaffolds to access vicinal tricarbonyl derivatives.

[摘要]：Double crossed-aldol condensation of a variety of arom. aldehydes with 1,3-dioxan-5-one in the presence of magnesium bromide di-Et etherate and diethylamine at room temp. was described. Excellent yields of 4,6-bis(arylmethylidene)dioxan-5-ones were achieved in a facile, one-pot, general procedure. The structure and the Z,Z-configuration of the exocyclic double bonds of the products were detd. by spectroscopic methods and confirmed by x-ray diffraction study of (4Z,6Z)-4,6-dibenzylidene-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxan-5-one [orthorhombic, Cmc21, a 18.4110(11), b 11.2053(7), c 7.6475(6) ? V 1577.69(18) ?, Z 4].
