A new synthesis of hemialdals and their stereoselective tandem reaction in the construction of 1,3-dioxolane derivatives.

[摘要]：A new synthesis for hemialdals, (RCOCHOH)2O (R = aryl), by directly oxidizing acetophenones using DMSO and a catalytic amt. of I2 is reported. A tandem reaction between these hemialdals and a-bromo ketones using Et3N as a base in the presence of LiBr, followed by a Williamson/aldol-type condensation was developed. The reaction proceeds with high stereoselectivity for a wide range of a-bromo ketones and hemialdals and leads to 2,4,5-triacyl-1,3-dioxolanes.
